Term 3 Week 8
Kaya Parents,
How did we get to Week 8 so fast?
Here is some info on current happenings in the classroom and at school.
BOOK CLUB / Novel Study
Book Club will begin next week, with all students receiving a new novel to read for the next 5
weeks.
Every Monday morning, each child will receive a weekly schedule via One Note - Literacy Group Folder.
As part of their weekly reading log for the next 5 weeks, your child will have to read aloud to a member of the family to have one of the diary logs signed off on (I appreciate your support with this). This would be a great opportunity to have your child give a brief summary (retell the main events) on what has been happening in the story so far.
Below are the different roles that your child will focus on over the next 5 weeks. Please note, that they only focus on 1 role each week - you can find their role for the week in the weekly schedule.
The Summariser will summarise one of the chapters that they read for the week. They will focus on the 'who, what, where, when and why' to help them retell the main events.
The Director will compose four questions to discuss during the Book Club Meeting. These questions will use ideas from the novel but can only be answered using their own personal experiences.
The Word Finder will find a minimum of five interesting or unusual words from the text. They then use these words to complete a dictionary meaning, the sentence that the word was in and another sentence using the word in the same context.
The Illustrator will create an illustration from a scene in the book. There objective is to use as much detail and colour as possible so that their group members can pick the scene without reading the caption.
The Connector will try and make a 'text to text', a 'text to self' and a 'text to world' connection from the required pages for that week. The most important part of making a connection is writing down how that connection helps you create a deeper understand of the novel. This could include a deeper understanding of the setting or the character's feelings.
SUCCESS CRITERIA FOR EACH ROLE CAN BE FOUND ON ONE NOTE AND IN YOUR CHILD'S WORK IN PROGRESS FOLDER.
The students have been placed into partnerships and are busy researching flights, places to stay, Grand Final tickets etc. It's great seeing the kids displaying their teamwork and leadership skills. All details, as well as marking rubric are on One Note - Content Library - Mathematics.
Sports Carnival Week 9
The Faction Sports Carnival will start next Friday 15 September at 9.15am. Please come and “Scream for your Team” and enjoy the day.
The P&F are running a sausage sizzle with some refreshments available. (Cash and card sales). This is available for spectators. Children will need to BYO packed lunch as usual.
Parents may take their children straight home after the sports carnival presentations if they wish. Please let me know if you are taking your child home early so I can check them off the class list.
Mrs Sinclair will send out more details shortly.
Drum roll please ......
Congratulations to Oscar Blackburn for receiving a merit award last week. Your math prowess amazes me more and more each day!
OLC's Got Talent - this week
A reminder that OLC's Got Talent is on this Friday 8 September, from 11am -12.15pm. We are looking forward to seeing our students shine and hope you can be there to enjoy their performances!
