Just a quick blog post regarding 'Operation Christmas Child' and 'Home Learning'.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
You would have received a handout last week explaining the following:
All the children in Year Five will soon participate in 'Operation Christmas Child' which is an initiative with the goal of packing shoeboxes full of little surprises to give to a child who may have never received a gift before. By participating in this, our children will have a first hand experience aimed at building the school value of compassion.
Your child will be grouped with four other children to contribute and pack the shoe box. The cost to send a shoe box will be $2.50 per child. We are asking you to encourage your child to do something extra at home to earn the money that is needed to buy the item to put into the provided shoe box.

It is very exciting for the children to share in this initiative which has been a part of the O.L.C. Community for the last 19 years.
There is no need to bring in shoe boxes, as we have been kindly donated them from The Samaritans Purse.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN TOOTHPASTE
HOME LEARNING
Home learning will no longer run on a Monday to Monday cycle.
Instead, the children will have something small to complete each night Monday - Thursday.
Each night, your child will have a section which will focus on the Multiplication Facts to complete (See below).
They will also have a little activity to consolidate their learning from that day.
Over this week and next week, these activities will reflect the current learning in the classroom on the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Answers will be on the whiteboard the next morning for them to mark their work.
The children will receive a 'BANQER' payment each morning if they have completed their tasks. Those who haven't completed their tasks, will forfeit their payment.
Your child will still be required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night of the week and record what they are reading in their diary. Students are encouraged to continue reading on the weekends.
This means, that your signature will now be required on a Thursday evening / Friday morning, ready to be shown to me on a Friday. Students will receive a 'BANQER' payment on a Friday if it has been filled out correctly and has a parent signature.
PLEASE DO NOT SIGN YOUR CHILD'S DIARY IF YOU FEEL THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ACTIVELY COMPLETING THEIR NIGHTLY TASKS including reading.
