Kaya and Welcome to Week 5

Kaya Everyone,  I hope you have all had a fantastic week. We have been very busy in 5R this week finishing off our Bushfire Art, familiarising ourselves with Reading groups and getting a little more settled into daily routine.  Here are a few things to update you on: Homework  This will be marked on a fortnightly basis.  Students are to complete the set times tables homework each week.  students should be doing 20 minutes of times tables practice (2-3 boxes and if they finish early that's great, no problems).  They also need to do 20-40 minutes of reading. This week they were to practice their Talk 4 Writing text (The Canal) and this will continue for Week 5 however, I recommend they practice the text then do some leisurely Reading which they can record in their Reading log (I will show the students how to access this on Monday in OneNote).  Can you please sign the reading log digitally by writing your name at the bottom each week. Uniforms  Just to remind you, the students must

Kaya and Welcome to Parent Information Night 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers,  Welcome to the 2022 parent information night for 5R. This year things look a little different due to COVID-19. I am aware that this throws us many new challenges.  Year 5 Parent Information Night 2022 As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Kaya Parents and Caregivers,  WE HAVE MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST TWO WEEKS AND SWIMMING (YIPEEE!)  Just a few important notes for the coming weeks:  New timetable  As you may be aware, without swimming we now have our improved timetable for the rest of the term.  A few minor changes have been made since I sent out the last one, so please find the attached copy.  On Mondays, students will wear their Teal sports uniform and on Tuesdays they do the same. Fridays as usual, the students will wear their faction sports uniform.  Homework OLC has now got a new homework policy. This policy has taken into account a teacher survey, current literature around homework and discussions with CEWA consultants. As from week 4 of this term the only two focuses for homework will be Reading and Times Tables. The students in Year 5 will be asked to read and log their reading every night for a minimum time of 20 minutes to a maximum of 40 minutes of reading. The focus is to encourage and increase the quali

Kaya Everyone,  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are feeling refreshed for an awesome week.  Just a few important notices for this week:  Homework  There is no homework to complete this week as we are currently reviewing the homework policy for the year. You will be updated on this for next week.  If you could please encourage your child to do some quiet reading each night for somewhere between 10-20 minutes that would be fantastic.  Swimming Lessons  Please make sure your child has their name on everything they need for swimming. This makes the changing process when we get back a whole lot smoother.  Students should be coming to school with their rashies and bathers underneath their uniform as our session is before recess.  As a reminder, I highly recommend the students pack thongs or sandals for swimming as sneakers take a lot of time to take off and put back on whilst at lessons.  Character Strength This Week: BRAVERY To be brave requires us to face challenges with a positive
