Term 3 Week 1
Dear Parents,
First things first, let's talk about the winter break... whether you travelled to tropical beaches, or like me had a cozy staycation binge-watching Netflix while devouring snacks and breaking up the occasional fight.... special memories I'm sure were made.
Now let's address the elephant in the room - the inevitable Monday morning! We know this can be tough, especially after days of staying up late and soaking up the freedom of sleeping in, but fear not, buckle up and get ready for the rollercoaster ride of knowledge, friendship and unforgettable moments this semester will bring.
Farewell Mr Lee
During the last week of school, it was wonderful to celebrate the amazing contribution Mr Lee has made in education over forty years, and the indelible mark he made on our lives. Below you can view the Year 5C gift. We gifted Mr Lee with a Wall of Hearts and an Essendon hot water bottle which I am sure has already been put to very good use. Thank you to Pippa who conveyed a beautiful, heart-felt message on behalf of our class to Mr Lee at the farewell Mass, and for Jobe who brought the house down with his Essendon roast! You are both the talk of the town. We wish Mr Lee a retirement filled with boundless joy, adventure and well-deserved relaxation.

School isn't just about textbooks and tests. Nope, nope, nope! This semester is all about setting new goals and achieving our personal best. Together we will conquer new concepts, develop superpowers of organisational skills, and challenge old ways of thinking. Here is some of what we will be up to:
Writing: Poetry - Limerick, Haiku, Kennings, Ode, Acrostic, Diamante, etc.... culminating in each student publishing a bound book of their best poems.
Guided Reading: Reading rotations, moving into Novel Study
Math: Operations with number in preparation for a new Math Investigation: Finals Fever
HASS: Colonization and Migration
Health: Growth Mindset
Art: Self-portrait
Speaking of organisational superpowers:
As a teacher and Mum, I know that organising kids can sometimes feel like herding cats, and we've all had moments of wearing mismatched socks and the dog eating our homework. So, to help us shake off the holiday haze, here is an "I'm-ready-for-school" checklist:
1. Correct uniform is worn. Reminder that upper primary students do not have Dance in Semester 2, therefore formal uniform is required on Mondays.
2. Charging of laptops every night to ensure they come in 100% charged.
3. Diary brought to school every day.
4. Stationery is stocked in pencil case, so no borrowing needs to take place.
5. Home learning completed and signed every week, starting Monday 24th July.
Thank you for entrusting me with your amazing kiddos. Welcome back to school, and let's make this semester the best one yet!
Warmly,
Anne Coltrinari
