5L Blog Term 1 Week 6

Kaya 5L Parents,

I am living for this 4 day working week!

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. I certainly did as I got to spend time with my family who were down from Perth. There are a few lucky duckies who have had a extra extra long weekend... Eva and Betty, we miss you & hope you have had a wonderful holiday!

It is been very busy in 5L in the past few weeks. I must say that we are really enjoying working with the lights dimmed and with soft focus music playing in the background.

We are in the middle of writing our Narratives and have had the traumatic experience of learning long multiplication.... welcome to Year 5 maths. Please keep an eye out for some of our work on Seesaw in the next half of the Term. In Year 5, it takes us a little longer to complete things because we take pride in what we do and well, the concepts/content is a step up from our previous primary years.

Quote of the week:

IMPORTANT DATES (more information can be found on the school website)

10th March: General assembly

12th March: Year Six Car Wash

15th March: NAPLAN Online Test Window (15th - 24th March)

18th March: Year Four Family Mass and Eucharist Commitment Mass

23rd March: Interschool Swimming Carnival (4-6)

26th March: Year Four Sacrament of  First Eucharist

27th March: Parent Interview Week

NAPLAN
NAPLAN is next week running on Tuesday - Friday. Roughly in the order of Writing, Reading, Mathematics and Spelling & Conventions. Just remember that this is a standardised test and does not measure the students full potential. We have been completing the NAPLAN training tests and I have had a chat to the kids about that it is a once off test.

Some children do not have headphones. If this is the case, please bring them to school by Tuesday as they need them for each NAPLAN test.

Another thing to note is that NAPLAN is all ONLINE and therefore the students need to be restarting their computers each night in order of the app to run smoothly. I will try to get this done in class time too.

Parent Teacher Interviews

This year we are back to normal with face to face interviews. It is a good opportunity to catch up and discuss anything and everything. I sent a text via SEQTA with the link to the booking system  (Thank you to those who have already booked in to see me). If you did not receive this message please let me know.

Have a wonderful rest of your week,

Holly
