5L Blog Term 1 Week 2

Kaya 5L parents,

Happy Week 2!

We are off to a flying start but can see by the end of the week that swimming would of taken it's toll. I am enjoying getting to know the kids and developing our Year 5L team. I look forward to meeting more of you and chatting about life ... oh and your child. It is a pleasure to be seeing so many familiar faces around.

For those who know me, I keep things very simple. My one wish for the year is to convert at least one student into a North Melbourne supporter (During the months of March to September, my main focus is AFL followed by a close second of teaching). If I have taught your child in Year 3, you'd know that this is an ongoing goal and I am yet to succeed.

As much as I enjoy a laugh and joke, we are to always uphold the values of Respect and Honesty. The students are aware of my very simple but important values.

Stationery

Thank you for all your labelled and great stationery. There are some students who do not have enough display folders and are short by 1-2. If I could please have them as soon as possible to ensure all students have their folders organised. No more tissues are required.

Diaries

All students in Year 5 have been given a Friendship Journal to organise, track and reflect on their 2023 journey. These diaries will travel to and from school each day.

At the end of the day, the children will be given the opportunity to reflect on the school day. They may write about something that they have learnt or something that they are grateful for or possibly something that is needed for the following day. This may be a great way for you to strike a conversation about their day (who knows, you may here crickets after asking the dreaded question of 'how was your day?')

They will also be using the diary each night to record what they have read, how many pages and for how long. As part of their home learning, your signature will be required each week, but i will speak more about this during the Parent Information Night.

Home learning won't officially start until next week, but could you please begin to encourage your child to begin to read every night for a minimum of 20 minutes.
