Kaya and Welcome to Week 6

Kaya and Welcome to Week 6

Good evening parents, families and caregivers,

I hope you have had a wonderful break over the long weekend and enjoyed some time with your family and friends. Can you believe that we have only a month of term left?

Just a few notices for this short and sweet three day week ahead:

Character Strength:

This week we are focusing on "forgiveness."

  • At OLC we are focusing on modelling and observing different character strengths.
  • "If we do not strive to forgive and to love, we will not be forgiven and loved either" Pope Francis.

Homework

  • I've noticed after marking two weeks worth of homework (reading log and times tables practice) that many students found it difficult to access or upload their reading log. As a result of this, I have decided that I will hand out a hard copy to each student that can be glued straight into their book.
  • I will provide the students with a new reading log page at the start of each fortnightly block. Please make sure this is signed off each week.
  • Homework is marked fortnightly which means that by Friday the 19th of March (the end of our next fortnightly block), your child needs to bring their signed homework book into school.
  • When homework books are handed in, I am checking off that the child's work has been completed and signed by a parent or caregiver (for times tables practice you can sign the bottom of the page once completed).
  • For Reading homework, the students need to complete 20-30 minutes of leisure reading which can be recorded in their log . They also need to practice our Talk 4 Writing text with actions for 10 minutes (for the next two weeks, we are focusing on the last two paragraphs).
  • For times tables homework, the students should complete one strip per night

Diaries
  • Please encourage your child to use their diary on a regular basis.
  • If you can please check their diary and sign it once a week, that would be fantastic!
  • I ask the students to write their homework and any important reminders in there. It's a really great habit for us to get into early and before the transition into high school.
Uniform

  • Boys must come to school with their shirts tucked in and the correct socks and shoes which I went over in our previous blog.
  • Girls must also have correct shoes on and make sure their hair is tied up if it falls below their collar.
  • Students in Naturaliste faction are permitted to wear free dress on Friday the 12th of March this week as they had the most tokens in their jar in week 4. Apologies for the mix up if your child already wore it last week, this week is official.
Mask Wearing

  • Just a gentle reminder; "we are all in this together!"
  • I empathise completely with the students during this time as I understand how uncomfortable masks can be (especially in warmer weather).
  • I ask that you please remind your child to wear them at school unless they are outside or presenting at the front of the class.
  • It is really important that we protect our community.

As always, thank you so much for your cooperation and support. If you have any questions at all, please send me an email; nikita.rees@cewa.edu.au

Warmest regards,

Miss Rees
