Kaya 5R and Welcome to Week 3
Kaya Parents and Caregivers,
WE HAVE MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST TWO WEEKS AND SWIMMING (YIPEEE!)
Just a few important notes for the coming weeks:
New timetable
- As you may be aware, without swimming we now have our improved timetable for the rest of the term.
- A few minor changes have been made since I sent out the last one, so please find the attached copy.
- On Mondays, students will wear their Teal sports uniform and on Tuesdays they do the same. Fridays as usual, the students will wear their faction sports uniform.
- OLC has now got a new homework policy. This policy has taken into account a teacher survey, current literature around homework and discussions with CEWA consultants.
- As from week 4 of this term the only two focuses for homework will be Reading and Times Tables.
- The students in Year 5 will be asked to read and log their reading every night for a minimum time of 20 minutes to a maximum of 40 minutes of reading. The focus is to encourage and increase the quality of reading time per day and develop conversations and a culture around reading in the school.
- There will be a selection of times tables to work on with the support of technology as digital practice will be encouraged.
- Every week the blog for each class will highlight the homework and the classroom teacher will be checking on the students progress fortnightly.
PATR Testing
- In Week 3 the children will undergo tests in Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Maths. The results of the PAT tests give me an indication of your child's abilities and are useful in informing my teaching and lesson planning moving forward.
- In Week 4; the students will complete the AGATE and wellbeing survey.
Diaries
- Our diaries have officially arrived and are ready for action.
- As of Monday, we will be teaching the students how to use these daily for reminders, such as homework, important notices and events within school.
Character Strength
- This coming week we are looking for people who share "creativity."
- "The use of imagination or original ideas to create something."
- Pope Francis says "Grow in creativity, Do not be afraid"
Thank you so much for your cooperation during this crazy time we are living in. I know that it puts a lot of stress on everyone so I really appreciate the way you have all accepted certain sacrifices. As you know, we can not have parents entering the classrooms during this time and this also means our parent meeting night will be held virtually.
I look forward to getting to know you more and I should let you know, we had a fantastic week in 5R!
Yours sincerely,
Nikita Rees
