Kaya 5R and Welcome to 2022

Kaya 5R and Welcome to 2022 with Miss Rees

Dear parents and caregivers,

First of all, I would like to take the opportunity to briefly introduce myself. I am a newly graduated teacher who is extremely enthusiastic and excited for this brand new year at OLC. I have moved down here for a change of scenery and to embrace working amongst a tightly knit community. In my role as a new teacher I will be making inclusivity and the wellbeing of my students', first priority.

I thought it would be helpful that I send out some important notices for the coming weeks of term 1 (so grab some snacks and feel free to kick your feet up).

Day 1 (Monday the 31st of January)

  • Students will need to be in class by 8:30am and bring their school bag in with them.
  •  School bags will be unloaded, crunch and sip and pencil cases (with labelled stationary inside) will be placed onto desks, drink bottles will be put away at the 'hydration station' and excess stationary not needed in pencil cases will be placed in a tub and go into our storage room.
  • Each student will receive a confidential number they will use for our whole class emotional check-in (this is part of our daily routine to ensure I know how each student is feeling).
Swimming Lessons
  • These commence Wednesday at the Old Dunsborough boat ramp (the 2nd of February) and finish up on Friday of week 2 (the 11th of February).
  • We will be loading up onto the bus for 9:15am and getting down to the beach to start lessons for 9:30am sharp.
  • Students can wear rashies and bathers underneath their school uniform. Normal school shoes are to be worn however, students may change into thongs just before swimming and back into school shoes once they are back (if they like).
  • Students will be provided with sun cream however, it may be worth putting some on before they come since our session is in the morning.
  • We will be back at school for 10:40am.
Term 1 Timetable
  • Please see the attached copy of how our first two weeks of school look.
  • Once swimming is over, the timetable will change again and I will send the updated one out to you all.

Uniform

  • Please check that both girls and boys have their hair at appropriate school length and off their face (meaning that if it is falling below their collar it must be tied back).
  • Teal sports uniform is to be worn on Wednesday when we have Physical Education.
  • Faction sports uniform is to be worn on Friday for Dance (and as usual for a Friday).
Homework
  • For the first two weeks of term there will be no formal homework grid as we have many disruptions.
  • I will set a small reading challenge for the students to complete each night during weeks 1 and 2 (they will be notified of this challenge each day at school and it will be their responsibility to complete).
  • Once swimming is over, we will pursue with the Ian Lilico style homework grid (I will send this out closer to date).
  • Diaries will be given out to the students which they will use to record home work and reminders in (these will go out either in weeks 3 or 4). These are a great way to get our students prepared for the organisational demands of upper-primary and soon enough, high-school.

Parent Meetings and Interviews
  • Please note there will be a parent meeting in week 3.
  • If you have any urgent queries, you may email me to arrange a suitable time however, please bare in mind that I may not be able to respond during school hours (it may then be best to contact the office).
  • I will not be answering emails past 5pm each school night.

Class Blogs

  • This will be our main platform for all official communication and as I mentioned above, any further queries may come through via email.

Lastly, I hope you have had the most wonderful holiday break and spent plenty of time with your family and friends. I can't wait to meet you all and have an awesome start to 2022.

Yours Sincerely,

Miss Rees
